Utterly Simple

AN ODE TO THE RAIN GODS

Don’t know if you’ve heard Jose Feliciano singing ‘Rain’. Mesmerising stuff. Don’t know if pouring rain does things to you. Disgusting traffic. Squishy shoes. Walking along Marine Drive. Raindrops trickling down your collar. Waves lashing against the rocks and into the BEST buses roaring by. Sniffles and sneezes. Snuggles and fat books. Water Kingdom. You know what I mean.

`Tis the season to be mushy. Hot coffee and ham sandwiches redolent with mustard. Garam chai and pakode.  Steaming hot chocolate and cookies. Pink Floyd singing ‘Wish You Were Here’. And since this is me writing, it’s going to be laced with the spirits that cheer! A tot of rum into the mug of coffee with a dusting of cinnamon. Kadak lemon tea splashed with Archer’s peach schnapps. The chocolate laced with Cointreau.

And if you think this sounds cool – there’s more. Try them all. Have a blast.

DESPERADO

Glass: brandy balloon

Ingredients:

60ml brandy

2 tablespoons honey

2-3 wedges of lime

2 cinnamon sticks

2 cloves

hot water

Garnish: lime peel and spices

To Make:

  1. Pour brandy and honey into glass.
  2. Squeeze the lime and drop the peels in.
  3. Break the cinnamon and clove and add to drink.
  4. Top with hot water.
  5. Stir.

 

UTTERLY SIMPLE

Glass: all-purpose wine/brandy balloon

Ingredients:

30ml dark rum/vanilla vodka

cinnamon stick

hot apple juice (Real Activ is good!)

Garnish: cinnamon sugar rim, slice of apple

To Make:

  1. Rim glass with cinnamon sugar (grain sugar with ground cinnamon).
  2. Put rum/vodka in the glass.
  3. Break and add the cinnamon stick.
  4. Top with steaming apple juice.
  5. Chuck in the apple slice.

 

SUNDOWN SQUIRREL

Glass: old fashioned/whisky tumbler

Ingredients:                                                                                                      

45ml whisky

15ml Campari

Garnish: slice of orange

To Make:

  1. Put orange slice in glass and muddle it a bit.
  2. Pour in the whisky and Campari.
  3. Add 100ml hot water and stir.

 

ARCHER’S TIME-OUT
Glass: all-purpose wine/tea cup
Ingredients:
45ml Archer’s Peach Schnapps
2 lime wedges
hot black tea

Garnish: lime peel, slice of peach

To Make:

  1. Put the peach liqueur in glass.
  2. Squeeze in the lime and drop peel.
  3. Top with steaming tea and stir.
  4. Slide the peach in.

 

 

 

WYWH

(Wish You Were Here)

Glass: all-purpose wine/Chinese teacups
Ingredients:
120ml red wine
1 teaspoon sugar

1 stick cinnamon2 clovespeel of lime & orangeGarnish: peels & spices
To Make:
  1. Warm all ingredients together till steaming.
  2. Pour into glass and enjoy.

 

 

 

 

MR. FANTASY

Glass: Irish Coffee glass/ glass coffee cup

Ingredients:
30ml Kilbeggan Irish whiskey (ideally)
hot black coffee
30ml Bailey’s Irish Cream

sweetened thick cream/vanilla ice cream

Garnish: chocolate flakes/Kit Kat

To Make:

    1. Put whiskey in glass.
    2. Top with hot black coffee (add sugar if you like).
    3. Float the cream/ice cream.
    4. Add the Bailey’s.
    5. Sprinkle with chocolate flakes and place Kit Kat across the rim.

 

HOT CHOCOLATE COW

Glass:Irish Coffee glass/ glass mug

Ingredients:
30ml Cointreau
creamy dark hot chocolate in milkcream/ice cream
Garnish: Kit Kat

To Make:

  1. Make hot chocolate with sugar, cocoa and hot milk.
  2. Fill glass.
  3. Float cream/ice cream.
  4. Lace with Cointreau.
  5. Place Kit Kat across the rim.
